Covering topics within both academia and business, the event will try to identify areas of activity of mutual interest, looking at how the two sectors can engage with each other. Registration is now open.

BarCamp Oxford, 26 June 2010

OSS Watch has teamed up with Torchbox to run a BarCamp at the Oxford University Club in Oxford in 26 June 2010. In keeping with the concept of a BarCamp this is an informal, geeky event where delegates can set their own agenda for discussions. This BarCamp follows on from the TransferSummit taking place in Oxford over the previous few days so we hope to see some of the conference delegates staying on for the BarCamp but you don’t need to have been to the conference to join in the fun. Why not sign up today!

Challenging our understanding of Digitisation

JISC are running some Developer Days in February (24th – 27th) in London. One of the sessions is a focus on Digitisation workflow. A summary of the day says :-

Taking you from the act of scanning images and objects, learning how to process and edit them with software like ocrupus, blender and OpenCV, storing and manipulating them online and finally, through to printing their digital forms out, mashed together with comments, citations, automatic qr codes and even other digital objects!

Digital preservation, the ability to manage content effectively and ensure continued access over time, is an implicit commitment made by an institution to those who deposit their important and valuable content in its repository. It’s also an asset for a repository to be able demonstrate to its users good quality content management processes embracing digital preservation.

Free and open source software business and sustainability models

Looks a bit late in the day, but there is a summary of the OSS Watch Workshop held last January (2009). Looks like OSS Watch Research Officer Rowan Wilson covered a lot of ground and issues during the day.
