Historic Environment Scotland has chosen Koha as its new library management system to manage the library’s valuable resources. PTFS Europe has implemented the Koha system and is providing on-going hosting and support services.

Koha Library Management System

The Koha library management system is a completely web-based application providing staff and public users with access to the system through web browsers.  The system comprises core modules: acquisitions with EDI, circulation, cataloguing, serials and comprehensive reporting functionality. The Koha online catalogue (OPAC) offers end users excellent search capabilities together with a full range of personalisation services.  Koha’s depth of functionality continues to develop meeting the changing needs of libraries and their users.

Historic Environment Scotland is responsible for more than 300 properties of national importance. Buildings and monuments in HES care include Edinburgh Castle, Skara Brae, Fort George and many other smaller sites, which together draw more than 3 million visitors per year.

HES is also responsible for internationally significant collections including more than 5 million drawings, photographs, negatives and manuscripts, along with 20 million aerial images of locations across the world.

Nick Dimant, Managing Director at PTFS Europe said

“We are delighted that Historic Environment Scotland has chosen the Koha system and we welcome them as new customers.  They will be joining our diverse and growing base of Koha customers in Scotland and from elsewhere in the UK who are hosted and supported by PTFS Europe.”
