The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has gone live with Koha as its new library management system to replace the existing SirsiDynix Symphony solution. The team at PTFS Europe have implemented Koha and are providing on-going hosting and support services.

Koha Library Management System

The Koha library management system is a completely web-based application providing staff and public users with access to the system through web browsers.  The system comprises core modules: acquisitions with EDI, circulation, cataloguing, serials and comprehensive reporting functionality. The Koha online catalogue (OPAC) offers end users excellent search capabilities together with a full range of personalisation services.  Koha’s depth of functionality continues to develop meeting the changing needs of libraries and their users.

Founded in 1670 as a physic garden, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh carries out scientific and horticultural research dedicated to discovering and describing plants and their relationships, evolution, conservation and biology. This research is underpinned by the living collections grown in the gardens at Edinburgh, Dawyck, Benmore and Logan, the Herbarium of more than 3 million plant specimens and the RBGE Library, Scotland’s national collection of botanical literature. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is a Non Departmental Public Body (NDPB) sponsored and supported through Grant-in-Aid by the Scottish Government’s Environment and Forestry Directorate (ENFOR).

Nick Dimant, Managing Director at PTFS Europe stated

“We are delighted that the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has chosen the Koha system and we welcome them as new customers.  They will be joining our diverse and growing base of Koha customers from across the UK and Europe who are hosted and supported by PTFS Europe.”
