As part of a plan to deliver an improved experience for students using the college library service, St Helens College has chosen the Koha open source library management system to replace its existing InFor Advance solution. PTFS Europe, an ISO27001 company, has been contracted to implement the Koha system and to provide on-going support services.
Koha Library Management System
With Koha, library staff access to the system is completely web-based; acquisitions and EDI, circulation, cataloguing, serials and reports are all done through a web browser. The online catalogue offers an excellent search capability and a full range of personalisation services. Koha’s depth of functionality continues to evolve and expand to meet the changing needs of its user base.

Dave Rankin Head of ICT & Library Services said, “We chose Koha for its economic savings and its degree of functionality. Importantly it’s also an open source system, which is our preferred choice whenever considering new software products. The system ticked all the boxes and provides us with increased flexibility and specifically the ability to easily integrate with other college systems.”
Nick Dimant, Managing Director at PTFS Europe added, “We are delighted that St Helens College has chosen Koha. Both the Further and Higher Education sectors are increasingly embracing open source systems as a way of getting the best of modern technologies whilst at the same time achieving value for money in an open, flexible environment.”
