EBSCO and PTFS Europe announce new partnership

London, 14th May, 2013
EBSCO, a provider of discovery services for libraries, and PTFS Europe announce a new technology partnership.
PTFS Europe will use the EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) API to integrate its reading list management system, Rebus:list, with EDS. Rebus:list will then be able to integrate with any EDS library’s ILS catalogue, internal repositories and EBSCO online information resources.
EBSCO’s Director of Product Management, Harry Kaplanian says this partnership will particularly benefit academic staff populating reading lists by creating a more discovery-focused workflow. “EBSCO has well-established relationships with an extensive array of publishing partners making our content readily discoverable via EDS for the benefit of all parties involved. Our work with PTFS Europe will enable tight integration of Rebus:list with EDS. We look forward to working with PTFS Europe and see this relationship as a natural step to make more content easily accessible to users.”
Nick Dimant, Managing Director of PTFS Europe added: “This partnership is a key element of the Rebus:list implementation at the University of Sunderland. It is also an example of how Rebus:list’s comprehensive web services API and contemporary software architecture helps optimise the workflow in the preparation and presentation of reading lists. Rebus:list offers libraries a real alternative when choosing a new reading list management system.”

Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust goes live with Rebus:list from PTFS Europe

London, 1st October 2012
The library at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is the first in the UK to go live with the Rebus:list reading list management system from PTFS Europe. Rebus:list is hosted at the PTFS Europe data centre in Manchester.
Rebus:list
Based on a comprehensive review of the current systems available, Rebus:list offers a significant advance in the effective management of the entire workflow involved in the delivery and presentation of reading lists.
With a focus on simple, clear and attractive design together with the application of underlying intelligence, Rebus:list offers libraries a real alternative when choosing a new reading list management system. It is designed to be able to connect to any library system on the market.
Angela Douglas, Head of Library and Learning Resources said “We envisaged a product that would give our users much more than just straightforward lists of references. We wanted lists that looked inviting, linked back into the catalogue so that people could see availability and be able to reserve material, as well as linking out to the full-text collections. We needed the lists to be easy to maintain and having discussed all these possibilities with PTFS Europe, Rebus:list seemed to satisfy all our needs and more…. The Reading list team found managing the reading lists much easier than before and since the launch in September we have had lots of great feedback from users”
Nick Dimant, Managing Director at PTFS Europe said “It is exciting seeing the first Rebus:list site go live. The library staff at the Tavistock and Portman contributed some fantastic ideas towards the development of Rebus:list and were keen and pragmatic during the implementation, for which we would like to thank them. Without compromising on functionality Rebus:list is specifically designed to cater for the needs of not just larger academic libraries but also for smaller libraries as well.”

PTFS Europe introduce rebus:list

London, 2nd July 2012
PTFS Europe are pleased to introduce Rebus:list – a new reading list management system.
Mark Gavillet, the software developer at PTFS Europe who originated the concept of Rebus:list and now leads the development programme explains:
Libraries have desperately needed a modern, fully featured, automated, integrated and most importantly, easy to use reading list management system for a number of years. I’ve spent just as long working with, and talking to, librarians about the workflows surrounding reading lists. Having seen the difficulties this has developed into an uncontrollable itch to take the problem on. Until now many systems have only succeeded in exacerbating the difficulty in managing reading lists by introducing additional complications and complexities. The time is right to address these problems properly and give librarians a system that works in the way they and their users really need it to work.
Early implementers
The first libraries to start implementing Rebus:list include Staffordshire University and the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. These libraries are of radically different sizes, thus emphasising the capability of the system to cater for a wide range of institution. PTFS Europe would like to thank the staff at these libraries for their invaluable help in contributing design ideas and advice on the functionality needed.
There will be a series of seminars and presentations of Rebus:list around the UK, starting with a seminar to be held at Loughborough University on 4th September – more details to follow. In the meanwhile to arrange a demonstration or discuss pricing please contact Nick Phipps – Rebus:list Business Development Manager nick.phipps@ptfs-europe.com
