Forth Valley College has chosen Koha as its new library management system to replace the existing solution from Softlink. The team at PTFS Europe has implemented Koha and is providing on-going hosting and support services. Koha will efficiently manage the College library’s valuable collections and deliver an improved service to both student and staff users alike.

Koha Library Management System

The Koha library management system is a completely web-based application providing staff and public users with access to the system through web browsers. The system comprises core modules: acquisitions with EDI, circulation, cataloguing, serials and comprehensive reporting functionality. The Koha online catalogue (OPAC) offers end users excellent search capabilities together with a full range of personalisation services. Koha’s depth of functionality continues to develop meeting the changing needs of libraries and their users.

The new Koha system has worked well so far and it certainly does what the Learning Resource Centre staff need it to do. The installers were on a very tight timescale and they managed to do exactly what they said they would do. The Koha implementation team also worked well with the college IT team on migration of existing data to the new system, and the setup of Koha. The PTFS Europe team were also knowledgeable and efficient.
The College is certainly happy with the way things have worked so far and the system will allow much quicker and easier access to e-books for all staff and students. We are also pleased with support we have received from the PTFS Europe since the installation.
